Where to find appliance manuals online (when you've lost yours)

Lost the manual for an appliance? In most cases you can find a PDF replacement in about two minutes — the manufacturer has almost certainly published it online. The key is having the model number to hand. Here's where to look and in what order.

What you need first: the model number

A brand name alone won't get you to the right manual. You need the model number — a combination of letters and numbers that identifies the exact variant of the appliance. It's almost always on a label on or inside the appliance itself.

If you're not sure where to find it, see how to find any appliance's model and serial number — it lists the common locations for every major appliance type.

1. The manufacturer's website (most reliable)

Every major appliance manufacturer hosts manuals for their products. Go to the manufacturer's website and look for a support, help, or downloads section. On most sites you can search by model number directly.

Common UK appliance manufacturer support pages:

  • Bosch, Siemens, Neff: bosch-home.co.uk / siemens-home.bsh-group.com / neff-home.com
  • AEG, Zanussi, Electrolux: aeg.co.uk / zanussi.co.uk
  • Whirlpool, Hotpoint, Indesit: whirlpool.co.uk / hotpoint.co.uk / indesit.co.uk
  • Samsung: samsung.com/uk (support section)
  • LG: lg.com/uk (support section)
  • Worcester Bosch, Ideal, Vaillant, Baxi (boilers): respective manufacturer websites all carry manuals

2. ManualsLib

ManualsLib is the largest independent manual database and covers millions of products. Search by brand and model number. Most manuals can be viewed in-browser or downloaded as a PDF.

It's particularly useful for:

  • Older appliances where the manufacturer's own archive may be incomplete
  • Less common brands
  • Cases where the manufacturer's website is difficult to navigate

A direct search often works faster than navigating a manufacturer's website:

[brand name] [model number] user manual PDF

For example: Bosch WAU28T89GB user manual PDF

This finds manuals from manufacturer sites, ManualsLib, and product pages on UK retailers — often in the first two results.

4. UK retailer product pages

If you bought the appliance from a major UK retailer, the product page often has a manual download in the specifications tab:

  • AO.com — usually has PDFs for most products listed
  • Currys — spec and support pages often link to manuals
  • John Lewis — product pages frequently include PDF downloads

This works best for appliances bought in the last five to ten years.

What if the manual doesn't exist online?

For very old appliances or discontinued brands, the manual may not be available anywhere. Options in this case:

  • Contact a specialist appliance repair community — many have accumulated manuals not found elsewhere.
  • Search for the appliance on eBay — sometimes the original listing has the manual attached, or a seller of the same model may be able to share it.
  • Contact the manufacturer directly — even if a product is discontinued, a customer services team sometimes has access to archived documentation.

Once you've found it: store it

Finding a manual once is better than finding it twice. Once you've located the PDF:

  • Download it to a folder where you keep appliance documents.
  • Or better: store a link (or the PDF itself) against the appliance in JustTaggit, so it's one scan away the next time the boiler starts making a noise at 11pm or the dishwasher displays an error code you don't recognise.

JustTaggit is built for exactly this — attach the manual, the receipt, the warranty expiry date and the service records to each appliance's QR code once, and you never have to search again. For more on the document side, see the UK homeowner's guide to appliance warranties.

Frequently asked questions

Can I find a boiler manual online?

Yes — most boiler manufacturers host PDFs of every model manual on their website under a 'support' or 'downloads' section. Search for your boiler's model number (on the front or inside the boiler casing) on the manufacturer's site.

What if the manufacturer no longer exists or has changed its name?

ManualsLib often has manuals for discontinued or legacy products. Alternatively, try searching '[brand] [model number] user manual PDF' in Google — older manuals are sometimes hosted by appliance repair communities or archived product sites.

Is it safe to download manuals from third-party sites?

Stick to well-known sources: ManualsLib, the manufacturer's website, or the product page from a major UK retailer (AO.com, Currys, John Lewis). Avoid downloading PDFs from unknown sites — they're occasionally used to distribute malware.

Can I find a manual if I don't know the model number?

It's much harder. Try searching the brand name plus a description of the appliance and approximate purchase year. A better approach is to find the model number first — see our guide on how to find appliance model and serial numbers.
